Parallel Editions is a small independent publisher. This site collects as little as it can: an email address if you choose to give us one, the sentences you ask the daily challenge to grade, and anonymous counts of which pages get read. No advertising trackers and no profiles sold to anyone.

What we collect, and why

What When Why
Your email address Only if you subscribe to the mailing list To send you the newsletter, and to send the free edition you asked for. Consent, which you confirm by clicking a link in an email before we ever send you anything else. The list runs on Kit (a US newsletter service): your address, and the address of the browser that submitted the form, go to Kit, which sends the confirmation email and handles unsubscribes.
Name, email and message Only if you use the requests form To answer you. The email field is optional and exists so we can reply. The form is delivered through Formspree (a US form service), which forwards it to our inbox and keeps a copy for thirty days.
The sentence you type for grading When you press “Check my translation” in the daily challenge To grade it. Your sentence, your chosen level and the book's own rendering are sent to DeepSeek, the AI service that writes the feedback; neither your name nor your email travels with it. The sentence and its feedback are then kept in your browser (and in your account, if you have one) so you can review them.
A random ID in your browser If you use the daily translation challenge To keep your streak and history on your own device, and to rate-limit grading by bad actors. It is not linked to your name or email.
Your email address, and the translations you submit for grading with their feedback, streak and points Only if you create a daily-challenge account To sign you in (with your Google account — we never see a password) and to keep your progress and review history available on any device you sign in on. Stored with Google Firebase. Having an account never puts you on the mailing list; that is a separate, opt-in signup. To delete your account and its data, email info@parallel.pub and we will remove it.
Page views Always To know which books people look at. Counted anonymously, without cookies and without storing IP addresses.

We do not sell or rent data to anyone, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Services that see your browser's address

Like almost every website, this one is assembled from a few outside services, and each of them sees the network address of your browser when it serves a file: Google Fonts (the typefaces), cdnjs and jsDelivr (JavaScript libraries), Firebase Hosting by Google (the site itself), and GoatCounter (page counts, without cookies and without storing addresses). None of them receive your name, email or anything you type from us.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. It uses your browser's local storage to remember things that only matter on your own device: your daily-challenge streak and history, and whether you have already seen or dismissed the mailing-list invite. Without an account, none of that is sent anywhere; with a daily-challenge account, your challenge history is also saved to your account so other devices can show it. Signing in with Google uses Firebase Authentication, which keeps a sign-in token in your browser's storage until you sign out.
